DigiElch Windows and Menus

MainWindow2

During the download of the video clip the scrolling of this page may be disabled!

<%EXTOGGLE%>1. File Menu

The menu bar at the left top of the main window provides commands for opening and saving a DigiElch 7.0  Project (*.dep) file (including any number of DigiElch Documents).
Click on the (round) DigiElch-Icon or on the commands in the Quick Access Toolbar:

FileMenu

Command: New
Creates a new (empty) DigiElch 7 simulation project. The user will be prompted to save the actual simulation project before the new one will be created.

Command: Open
Opens an existing DigiElch 7 project (*.dep) file.

Command: Save
Saves the actual DigiElch 7 project using the actual name.

Command: Save As
Saves the actual DigiElch 7 project with a new name.

Command: RAM-Disk Content
Shows the actual content of the RAM-Disk

<%EXTOGGLE%>2. Ribbon Bar

The ribbon bar contains DigiElch's main menu. The associated menu commands and their functionality depend on the document type (electrochemical method) selected in the DigiElch Documents window and on the simulation data (current curve, concentration profiles, surface concentrations) shown in the Client Area of the main window. For this reason only the menus Windows and Help which are independent of this are described here.

Menu: Windows

MenuWindows

Command: Show Status Bar
Show or hide status bar at the bottom of the main window.

Command: Show DigiElch Documents
Show or hide the window on the left-hand side of the main window where all open DigiElch's documents are listed.

Command: Show Properties
Show or hide the properties window on the right-hand side of the main window.

Menu: Help

MenuHelp

Command: Help Topics
Opens DigiElch's help file.

Command: View License Status
Shows the status of your DigiElch license.

Command: Program Update
Checks whether a new build of DigiElch is available on the Web. Requires proper configuration of the Windows firewall to enable access to the Internet for DigiElch.

Command: Dongle Update
Checks whether a dongle update/upgrade is available, for instance, after upgrading from DigiElch Standard to DigiElch Professional. Requires proper configuration of the Windows firewall to enable access to the Internet for DigiElch.

<%EXTOGGLE%>3. Document Menu

The menu bar at the top of the DigiElch Documents window

provides commands for creating, opening, saving, copying and pasting native DigiElch 7 simulation documents. It also enables the user to load old-style DigiElch 6 documents.

Menu Commands:

Command: Add New Document DocumentNew

Command: Open
Opens a native DigiElch 7 document file.

tipbulbNote that the file format of experimental documents generated with DigiElch 6 is not identical with that generated by DigiElch 7 (despite the same file extension). For this reason, DigiElch 6 files cannot be "opened" with DigiElch 7. Please use the "Load" command instead.

Command: Save
Save the active DigiElch Document (i.e. the document currently selected in the DigiElch Documents window)

Command: Copy
Copy the active DigiElch Document.

Command: Paste
Add the copy to the list of open DigiElch Documents.

Command: Delete
Delete/remove the active DigiElch Document

<%EXTOGGLE%>4. DigiElch Documents - Window

This windows on the left-hand side shows a listing of all simulation documents which have been opened in the actual DigiElch project. This list is empty immediately after starting the program. The number of documents which can be opened and handled in a project is limited only by the RAM configuration of the computer.

After executing the command Add New Document several times the list of simulation documents in the DigiElch Documents window may look as follows:

Document1

The name of the active (selected) document is written on a blue background. It is the document to which the menu commands in the Ribbon Bar and the commands Save, Copy and Delete in the Document Menu refer. The simulations or experiments referring to the active document are displayed in the Client Area of the main window.

The default name given to a document can be modified as shown in the following picture.

Document2

<%EXTOGGLE%>5. Properties - Window

This window on the right-hand side shows information referring to the active simulation/experiment and/or provides options for customizing colors, printing, data export and screen display. The following options are available immediately after starting DigiElch or after removing all open documents from the list of DigiElch Documents

Properties

Option: Background Color
Determines the color for the window background of the Client Area. The default color is a pale slate blue.

Option: Connect Potentiostat
If the Reference 600 modules are activated the program tries to connect to the Reference 600 potentiostat whenever an experimental document is opened or created. This takes several seconds and ends up with an error message if the potentiostat is momentarily switched off or not present. Set this option to FALSE if you want to work with experimental documents on a computer that is currently not connected to the Reference 600 potentiostat.

Option: Profile Colors
Default colors used for drawing concentration profiles and surface concentrations (surface coverage). Color 1 is used for drawing the concentration profile/surface concentration of species 1, color 2 that of species 2 and so on.

tipbulbModified Options (except for Option: Connect Potentiostat) will be saved in the Windows Registry and restored when restarting the program.

<%EXTOGGLE%>6. Client Area

This area is empty immediately after starting the program. After adding a new DigiElch Document or opening an existing one, this area contains a tabbed window showing several aspects of simulation results

ClientArea

Tabbed Windows:

1.Simulations
The simulated current response

2.C-Profiles
The simulated concentration profiles

3.Surface Concentrations
The simulated surface concentrations or surface coverage

4.Experiments
The imported experimental current curves

5.Data Fitting
Comparison between simulated and experimental curves when running data fitting

6.Compare Curves
A comparison between simulated and experimental curves for selected couples of the data fitting project

7.Comment
The user may add here detailed information concerning the simulation, data fitting or experiments involved in this DigiElch Document.

<%EXTOGGLE%>7. Status Bar

The info shown there depends on the currently activated tabbed Window.
